Coalitions

Since 2021, we've joined to hold the International Fact-Checking Network set of principles through our fact-checking platform for political declarations, Factual.ro. This initiative driven by Poynter is a set of commitments that member organisations undertake for excellence in fact-checking.

We're part of the TransparenCEEcoalition, a community of non-profit, IT and media organisations that use technology to promote transparency, and accountability through good governance in the Central and Eastern European region.

We're research partner for Romania in the elaboration of the bianual Open Budget Surveystudy. Carried under the leadership of the International Budget PartnershipNGO, the study is an independent, comparative and objective research-based tool that assesses how authorities spend public money by measuring three internationally accepted macro indicators: transparency, public participation and budget oversight.

We're part of the Electoral Code Now coalition through which we request the adoption by law of a unified Electoral Code, which should include the rules of organising and conduct of all elections in Romania (elections for various positions and referendums). We want clearly defined common rules to ensure the predictability and transparency of the electoral process.

We were part of the Politics without borders coalition where we campaigned for the elimination of arbitrary barriers to political participation. The Coalition saw amending the legislation as a necessary reparation for the exercise of the severely restricted right to association and political participation.

Partnerships

In 2020, we started a project in which we researched how NGOs can better collaborate with local authorities. Officially named „Local Level Collaboration to Support Civil Society Around Transparency and Participation in CEE”, the project was carried out with funding from the National Endowment for Democracy and in partnership with ePaństwo (Poland) and K-Monitor (Hungary)

Together with Facebook, we ran a campaign to offer some education about fake news ahead of the 2019 presidential elections,

In 2019, we joined forces with Libera Association and co-organised the Free your ideasconference, which also marked our joining a network of European civil society associations and groups fighting organized crime and corruption.

Up until the 2019 elections for the EU Parliament, we enrolled independent observers through the Every Votecoalition, which we were part of since the beginning. Before then, we offered electoral assistance with Expert Forum created in 2014 and 2016.

In 2017, in partnership with Forum Apulum, we organised the first edition of CiviCon, in Alba Iulia, an “attitude festival”, which through discussions, workshops, exhibitions and original cultural interactions brought civic involvement and critical thinking to the attention of the general public.

From 2014 to 2018, Colivia, our HQ, was one of the places you could visit during The Night of Houses, a circuit of domestic and cultural places in Bucharest.

In 2014, we monitored the way the legislative and institutional systems worked through 7 ani de acasă. Alongside Expert Forum, the Romanian Center for European Policies and the Ratiu Center for Democracy, we addressed issues related to decision-making transparency, procedures for organizing polling stations, strategy for training staff working during the elections, electoral education and others.

Collaborations

In the 2020 state of emergency, our friends from the Modulab research lab asked us to help with a fundraiser for the prototype autonomous robot they were developing in response to the pandemic. The initiative was non-profit, the robot will be donated to hospitals. It is a device called MUV Sterilisier, which maps the space in which it is located, then exposes it to a high dose of UV-C radiation, which inactivates any microorganism - including viruses such as coronavirus and bacteria.

Dezaburit it was perhaps the most popular project we got involved in in 2019. Achim realized that any educational video should fit within two minutes to get young people's attention, and we helped him with advice on legislation.
